WHY ARE YOU AFRAID

Pencil on translucent paper

Fear is an emotional reaction. A result of feeling unsafe or to avoid feeling so. The conspicuous expression of fear is portrayed in this drawing as fear is often not the reason why you are afraid. Instead, there is a physical or emotional reason that instigates fear which is why the gaze of the girl is distant as if she is looking at her fear. The composition directs the viewer to question their own fears as they envisage the cause of the girl’s fear by evaluation of their own.
