THE SOUND OF SILENCE

White ceramic sculptures of human heads and faces displayed on a white pedestal and wall.

78 x 42 x 100cm

White Clay

The expression of handmade infant heads depict comfort and tranquility as the uniformity of white symbolises a child’s innocence. However, the peaceful slumber contrasts with copious bodiless heads haphazardly arranged in varying sizes and irregularities such as concave heads, uneven edges and chipped corners defy that peace. The viewer experiences a semblance of conflicting feelings as they are overwhelmed with dream-like calm but also an unsettled and perturbed consciousness.

Several white ceramic sculptures of baby faces with closed eyes, some with large faces and smaller faces on their foreheads, arranged on a surface.
